Health Assessment

We want all pet companions to feel confident their four-legged friends are safe when in our care. When it comes to your dog’s health, we take every precaution to ensure they are well-cared for and not put at risk while visiting our facility. Animal Kingdom Resort has special regulations in place to keep every dog safe and content. We are happy to discuss your dog’s specific needs to determine if they are a good fit for our facility. While we welcome all breeds, ages, and sizes, we make sure you feel comfortable with our policies and that your dog meets the requirements we have designed to reduce risks and keep pets healthy.

Feeding our Lodgers

The best way to keep our overnight guests happy and healthy is to ensure they are eating. Even fresh, healthy food that is new to a diet can cause digestive issues simply because your dog isn’t used to the ingredients. To avoid tummy issues, not to mention your dog not eating, all our lodgers are served the same food they would enjoy at home. Although it might seem odd, we ask you to provide your dog’s food during their stay, as this is the best way to ensure they are eating properly. All food is clearly marked to ensure your pet receives the right food. This policy ensures you know your dog is eating well, and they will be happier during their stay.

Healthy Visitors

Our clients’ health and safety are always our number one priority. To ensure your dog is not interacting with dogs that could put their health at risk, we arrange a trial visit. Here, we review health histories and where dog companions must present proof their dogs are healthy and have received all the proper vaccinations. That is why we will ask you to set up a trial visit as well. We do accept dogs with health issues that are non-contagious, but for the most part, we cater to healthy pets. If your pet does have a health condition, we will discuss it at your trial visit and determine whether we can accommodate them safely. As well, we also have the following health policies:

  • All DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations must be up to date, including puppies that must have their first set of vaccinations
  • All puppies must pass a clean fecal exam
  • Dogs must be free of contagious illnesses and in good health
  • From May to November, all dogs must be on a flea protection program and be tick and flea free at all times

Visitors with Medication

As mentioned, there are some health conditions that we can manage at our facility. If we determine your dog will be safe under our care, but they require medication, you can provide a Medication Form with instructions, along with their clearly marked medications in their original containers. Keep in mind our staff is highly experienced and trained in general dog care, but are by no means considered medical experts. While we will give medication to your pet, we cannot perform any other form of treatment while they are visiting.

Safety at Animal Kingdom Resort

As you know, we conduct trial visits for every dog that wishes to use our services. This is designed to protect our clients and keep all of our visitors safe and happy. Although we hate to turn away your pets, we do reserve the right to refuse admittance to dogs that fail to meet our requirements. This can include health issues, but can also be related to social and behavioural challenges. This ensures that our clients are not exposed to overly aggressive behaviour that can put them in harm’s way. Our team is trained in controlling poor behaviour safely. It is important to understand that should your dog display poor behaviour; they will be removed from the common area. They will not be allowed to return to the Animal Kingdom Resort common area until their behavioural issues have been corrected through proper training. Dogs with behavioural challenges are eligible for services at an additional cost. They will receive one-on-one care to ensure the safety of themselves, other clientele, and our caregivers.
